Tattoo Removal

Often decisions we have made in our youth become problems as we grow older. At New Mexico Cosmetic Lasering, patients often come to our center seeking the removal of tattoos they had earlier considered chic.

In the past this was a difficult and painful procedure with minimal results. Now at New Mexico Cosmetic Lasering, we are able to offer a solution to those who desire to remove those embarrassing tattoos.

Our state-of-the-art laser systems can treat everything from small, single-colored tattoos, to large multicolored tattoos. Over the course of repeated visits, our lasers will work to fade your tattoo until significantly reduced, if not completely removed, in a safe and effective manner.

Medical lasers use an intense beam of light to significantly lighten or completely remove your tattoo, without harming the surrounding healthy cells. The light energy may be delivered as a continuous wave of light or in a pulse, depending on the treatment and the type of laser used.

When the ink particles of your tattoo absorb the light from the laser, they are broken up into tiny fragments. These fragments are then absorbed through your body's natural cleansing mechanism. This cleansing process generally takes a few weeks. Larger tattoos may require multiple treatments.

Laser tattoo removal has taken the place of more painful methods such as surgical excision, dermabrasion, chemical peels and cryosurgery. It is non-invasive and targets only the ink used in the tattoo process.

The number of tattoo removal treatments required for maximum improvement depends on the size, location, depth, and color of your tattoo. Treatments should be done four to eight weeks apart to allow your body to remove the maximum amount of tattoo pigment. Treatment sessions usually only take from 10 to 30 minutes. You will continue to see a lightening of your tattoo after each removal treatment as your body disposes of more pigment.

Most patients soon will see significant reductions in their tattoos. The improvement can be quite dramatic. However, large or heavily pigmented tattoos applied by a professional tattooist can require many removal treatments for optimum results.
